PRODUCTION

Is your jewellery made to order?

Our website offers a selection of our favourite pieces that are ready to ship.

However, we are also able to create pieces to order, so if you see something you like, but would like it in a different material, size or length, we are typically able to provide.

The cost of an item may change depending on the required size or length (due to the need for additional gold).

Please contact us with your request and we will be more than happy to assist.

Where are your items made?

The majority of our pieces are made by our master jewellers in Australia. We also source individual items from around the world.

Are your diamonds genuine and ethically sourced?

All of our diamonds are ethically sourced from suppliers who are partners in the Kimberley Process, which is a commitment to remove conflict diamonds from the global supply chain. Read more about the Kimberley Process here.

What materials do you make your items with?

Our jewellery is made using 9k, 14k and 18k solid gold, and precious stones.

What is the difference between solid gold and gold plating, gold fill and vermeil?

All Fragments pieces are made from solid gold, which is the most valuable and best quality form of gold. Gold is typically classified in karats which signifies the percentage of pure gold that a piece of jewellery is made up of. 24 karat is the most pure form of gold, however this is too soft to be worn for everyday jewellery. For this reason, gold is often alloyed with other metals to enhance its durability (for example, 9k gold) .

Gold plated jewellery is much cheaper and lower in quality. It refers to pieces that are made up of a base metal (for example, copper or brass) or sterling silver (in the case of vermeil) which is covered in a very thin layer of gold. Therefore, gold plated pieces only consist of a small percentage of gold which is likely to wear off. Furthermore, the base metals used to create gold plated pieces have a tendency to turn your skin green.

Gold fill refers to jewellery that is created by bonding a thick layer of gold to a base metal. Whilst a gold fill piece will perform better than gold plated jewellery, it will still tarnish with wear, require more maintenance and will not stand the test of time like solid gold.

How long will a custom size piece take to make?

Lead times vary depending on the piece. Pieces can be ready in as quickly as one week, but can take a matter of weeks.

Please contact us to discuss the item you are interested in and we will provide you a specific timeframe prior to you placing your order.
